The Maker’s & Mentors June 10 Topic: Garden Chat—Green thumb not required.
You may have said more than once in your life, “I can’t grow that, I don’t have a green thumb.” Well when my first aloe plant in college dried up and killed over, I thought the same thing. Now 20 years later (okay, really 30 years!), I may not be able to grow everything but I can grow somethings. And with a little knowledge and mentoring, you can too!
So no matter where you are on the green thumb spectrum – plants quiver in fear when you walk by or they hum melodies of joy, you’ll have something to gain or offer at our next Makers and Mentors on Saturday, June 10th.
We’ll be meeting at Jeannette Elliott’s home, 588 County Road 2400 N, Dewey, IL 61840 (click link to Google map)- approx. 5 miles from the church) for a Garden Chat packed with show & tell, taste & smell, and Q & A galore.
We’ll talk shop with having the right tools to make the job easier; neat ways to organize your plant information and track performance (that sounds geeky); demo techniques for pruning, deadheading, and dividing; analyze plant selection and placement; and tour perennial beds and a herb garden (that maybe a stretch!). But most of all as a group we’ll gather together and share our successes, tips, ideas, and love of plants and learning.
Gardening has great benefits – work on your tan, get a workout, give plants and receive, enjoy the fruits of your labor (literally!), express yourself creatively, provide habitat and food for birds and pollinators, mentally & spiritually refresh, and more. The list is better than medicine! Hope you’ll be able to make it & bring a friend.
